SXM Twin Island where many things are duplicates yet different

A SXM-Twin-Islands, which have 2 Capitols which is  home to residents from all walks of life..

St. Maarten/Saint Martin is known as a friendly island, The Islands vibrant hillsides and turquoise beaches attract over 1 million visitors each year, thus making this tiny rock in the Caribbean sea, divided into two Island nations  a hot attraction for tourists and new settlers. St. Martin/St. Maarten is split by two governing bodies, the Dutch side and the French Side.

St. Maarten and Saint Martin

The one Island with two Capitals.

Colombier and Pic Paradis still represent a pure and natural environment that only nature lovers and nature

itself can preserve for the future of the planet. It is difficult not to be enthralled by itś inspiring simplicity.

Loterie Farm where the very earth enfolds the memory of the early inhabitants while nurturing the roots of century-old trees.

Loterie Farm provides refreshing refuse where simple pleasures of a warm welcome and the authentic flavor of

local cuisines are  offering an open-air lounge caressed by the gentle tradewinds.

Oyster Pond is a perfect example of how the two island nations are split. The border runs through the pond.

This Pond has been a place that is considered the safest place for boats to hide from a storm

Cupercoy adjacent to French-side Low-Lands

Cupercoy and Low-Lands area  is one the most desired residential regions of Sint Maarten/Saint Martin

and the cove  at Cupecoy is the crown jewel.

Low-Lands is where many celebrities had their winter  homes in the past

even Donald Trump had a home here.

SXM twins. There are more than just a few,

SXM is a Unique permutation of the genetic lottery. LINKED by a thread that connects us to each other

and to all humanity. On this 37 Sq mile pebble in the ocean ( bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on the East,

and the Caribbean sea on the west) faceted by history the colors of our destinies  have crossed in a chromatic

fusion either chosen or imposed. The thread of our Caribbean lives are drawn from Africa. Asia, Europe

and the America's. They link us to the invaders and the invaded, to the descendants  of in-slaved and the

exiled and to those who came seeking opportunities, a tale of  confusion. OUR identity  is plural,

of all that is possible and its opposite. Children of the universe. OUR SKINS and our minds intermingle

seeing new chromatic combinations. To add without subtracting.

One Island, Two nations. Bound by the thread of our green hills and blue waters.

Connected Peoples historically for centuries through the Treaty of Concordia of  March 23rd 1648. Article 3: “ that the French and Dutch established on said island shall live as friends and allies,

and that in case of either party molesting the other, this shall constitute an infringement of this treaty,

and shall therefore be punishable by the laws of the war;

Article : 5 “ that the chase, the fisheries, the salt pans, the rivers, the lakes, the fresh waters, the dye-wood,

mines and minerals, harbors, and road-steads, and other comodoties of the said island, shall serve to

provide the wants of the inhabitants”

And Thus, centuries later an island strenghtened by its diversity of its people. SXM TWINS!

The Flanboyant trees come in two different colors, orange blooms are the most popular, the other is Yellow which is mostly found in areas on the French side.

Dutch Philipsburg and French Marogot.

When you discover Dutch Philipsburg built on a sandy strip of land between Great Bay and the Great Salt Pond,

this Capitol is busy and attractive. The pedestrian Greatbay walkway provides a way to enjoy the view of the crescent shaped beach bay, and the deep water harbor, a marina where sail and motor boats cruise in and out,

areas along the beach that allows shopping, dining and much more.. Parallel to  the bay walkway is the

renowned Front street is often busy with shoppers browsing the many stores displaying items at duty free prices. Many days passengers stream off cruise-ships to delight in the profusion of items offered to them duty-free.

French Marigot awakens as itś markets open and does not sleep until itś last restaurant , bars and clubs closes their doors.

Marigot loves to show her age in gingerbread houses dating back more than 200 years and ForLouis,

still stands after centuries, and yet she is perfectly at ease in the 21st century,

keeping watch over the bay of Marigot and capital city below.Fort Louis is constantly updated

since electricity was installed,

she has made up for lost time. However, you will not see high-rises overpowering the landscape,

with two well-equipped marinas and  relatively quiet  streets lined with boutiques selling mostly

French items  also duty-free. Just step away from the traditional sea-front  market which can be

busy but  relatively quiet. Marigot also offers a wide variety of bars and Restaurants where one

can savor a French art.enlivened by a Creole touch.

Two Airport towns

 Simpson bay  and Grande Case.

One must not judge a place by driving though or flying over it.  Simpson bay is adjacent to Cole- bay,

both towns   have residential and industrial buildings intermingled,

the lagoon links up with the Caribbean sea.

Work and leisure are pursued side by side, illustrating our patchwork of the tropical life-styles.

The backbone road of Cole bay and Simpson bay is the sometimes a too busy road that much

of the islands traffic from Marigot and Philipsburg pour into on the way to

Princess Juliana International airport.

On the lagoon side the colorful restaurants, marinas and casinos, as well as the

magnificent yacht marinas, are  evidence that even the most privileged succumb to

the alure of the enchanting tropical life-style. However there is a relatively new causeway

that stretches across the lagoon that now allows foran alternate route to the International airport.

Grande Case

On the other side of the Island the town of Grande Case has a dining street which has Restaurants,

one can walk from one to the other or stop in by an art gallery on the way to the smaller airport that

serves as the connection hub mainly to the French Caribbean Islands and sometimes some

private jets land there when Juliana is very  busy during the Holiday season.

Simpson bay strip offers a very unique entertainment variety of, Casinos, a Movie theater, dancing,

and dining  at various spots once again the diversity stands out.

Orient bay is a beach, no wait itś  a neighborhood. More than that ….

Itś a whole village  on the East coast of the island On the Atlantic Ocean,

the most famous beach on the French side.

It offers something for everyone- total rest and relaxation or all types of

water sports imaginable an intimate cocktail bars and restaurants for

all comers who chose to party and enjoy dinning by the bay.

Ans Marcel is a well-kept secret. Approaching it by land or sea,

Anse  Marcel is one of the most secluded bays on the island. No doubt the pirate ships

were glad to find this place in which to rest after braving the high seas …

On  the land side Pea Tree Hill and Red Rock protect Anse Marcel from

the turbulent north-west winds as well as

from daily rush of the busy main road traffic. Hidden  among the hills,

it is a tranquil place where the days stretch out without haste or stress as if in a timeless bubble.

It sometimes seems as if here time stood still to rest a while.

The still waters  of the little bay of Cul -de- Sac, hidden behind Pinel island and little Cay,

provide a quiet haven for the light crafts that moor here.

Colombier and Pic Paradis still represent a pure and natural environment that

only nature lovers and nature

itself can preserve for the future of the planet. mIt is difficult not to be enthralled

by itś inspiring simplicity.
